Extreme Championship Basketball Draft Results Announced

By: Jamil Jeffries and Ron Taylor - (2/14/00)

Extreme Championship Basketball (ECB) is one of the most popular and fastest growing sports in the world today. On the second of February the draft took place. E.C.B. pre-season start the fifteenth of February at Forbush.

Only three of the original four franchises remain. Those are the defending champs, Yadkin Tech, runners-up, Team Uhh, and the last-place finishers, East Bend Ballers. Fear not faithful ECB fans, the league has two new very talented teams coming in. They are Team Kevin led by Kevin Ratcliffe, and Davie A+M Deacs led by Robert Tijerina.

Now to get to the draft; up first was Team Kevin, who drafted junior “Cannibal” Chris Braswell and senior Kirk Ridings. The Davie A+M Deacs drafted all freshmen with the exception of sophomore, Jeff Noe. They are: Stephyn Morris and Josh Fall. Up next were the East Bend Ballers, who were able to keep junior, Philip "A.C.S." Scott and also pick up junior, Ricky Zachary and Senior, Jamie “The Cat” Hutchens in the process. The runners-up, Team Uhh, were able to keep their same team from last year with no extra additions: number-one scorer and league M.V.P., junior, Jordan Scott; league assist leader, junior, Nick Poindexter; and the number-one shot blocker, junior, Jamil “The Rock” Jeffries. The championship team, Yadkin Tech also kept their players from last season with one exception: former ECB superstar, junior, Zach “Basketball” Wood retired to become Coach Zach “Chezz” Wood of the Yadkin Tech. Their players are: the 1999 John Wooden Coaching Award winner, junior “Tenacious” Tom Rose; The self proclaimed defensive player of the year, senior “Lightning” Larry McDonald; and second leading scorer, junior “Natural” Nathan Walls.

Whether they are out in the open or not, there have been rumors floating around the E.C.B. One of those rumors is that concerning an alleged former teammate of Team Uhh, Daniel Shore. Nicholas Poindexter stated that if sophomore Daniel Shore stayed on Team Uhh, then he would immediately turn in his letter of resignation and quit the league. Not wanting to lose the league’s assist leader, Team Uhh’s captain, Jordan Scott, had to make a tough decision and cut Shore from the team. The other player of Team Uhh, Jamil Jeffries, found this very unfair and though it was selfish of Poindexter to force Scott into making such a hard decision.

That is all from the ECB world but keep reading this newspaper for the latest updates in Extreme Championship Basketball.
